The Role
Cellugy is seeking a practical, visionary, and results-driven Head of Bioprocess Development to lead our process development team towards industrialization of our innovative bioprocess. This is a pivotal, hands-on role where your expertise bridges fundamental process technology and commercial manufacturing. You will be responsible for the end-to-end development & industrialization of Cellugy’s bioprocess, ensuring scalability, quality, and cost-efficiency as you lead our transition from pilot scale to commercial scale. This requires you to take full ownership of translating process design into experimental plans, trial execution, and advanced data evaluation. You will lead our process development team including collaboration with our development partners and process equipment providersYou will drive continuous process optimization to maximize yield, throughput, and product quality. Success depends on close collaboration with Research Scientists and product specialists to align process targets with final product performance to reach our business goals.

Key Responsibilities
- Effectively lead and manage the 5-people Bioprocess development team, ensuring they are appropriately resourced, skilled, and deployed to key projects with clear deliverables in line with Cellugy’s strategy and commercial goals, and in alignment with the leadership.
- Direct the process development, optimization and scale-up strategy for both upstream and downstream to maximize process performance (yield and throughput) and secure cost-efficiency, scalability, regulatory compliance, and product quality.
- Be responsible for identifying, engaging, and maintaining positive, productive relationships with external development partners and contractors to support process development and scale-up.
- Work in close collaboration with Cellugy´s technical colleagues to identify scale-up challenges and develop robust processes for transfer to industrial manufacturing scales, including preparation of technical transfer documentation.
- Take ownership of bioprocess capex and opex planning, tracking, and reporting. Communicate needs and expectations clearly to leadership and peers.
- Ensure all critical process data required for technoeconomic analysis (TEA) are collected to inform scale-up and investment decisions.
- Due to the nature of the tasks, some well-planned and well-coordinated but regular off-hour laboratory and/or travel activities to external partners are part of your tasks. In turn, we offer a flexible working environment.
We are looking
- MSc in chemical engineering, biochemical engineering, biotechnology or similar equivalent education coupled with +5 years of industrially relevant working experience within a regulated industry, such as food, beverage, life sciences, or related field.
- Direct experience from multiple projects involving upstream and downstream process development and their transfer to industrial settings.
- Strong focus on safety, quality, reliability, and delivery performance.- Exceptional stakeholder management, team building, and leadership skills.
- Strong communication and reporting skills, with the ability to work effectively in a diverse, multidisciplinary team.
